Parenting with Patience

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Galatians 6:9

You've answered the same question seventeen times today. You've cleaned up spills, wiped tears, and negotiated bedtime for what feels like hours. Your patience ran out somewhere around lunchtime, and now you're just trying to make it to bedtime without losing your cool again.

Parenting is exhausting. It's beautiful and sacred, yes—but also relentless. The daily grind of feeding, teaching, correcting, comforting, repeating... it wears you down. And on the hard days, it's easy to wonder if any of it even matters.

But here's what God wants you to know: it matters. Every moment of patience you muster, every gentle word when you want to yell, every bedtime prayer even when you're too tired to think—it's planting seeds. You may not see the harvest today or even this year. But you will.

Parenting isn't about perfection. It's about perseverance. It's showing up, day after day, even when you feel like you're failing. It's asking God for strength when yours runs out—and trusting that His grace fills in all the gaps your exhaustion leaves behind.

You're doing better than you think. Your kids don't need a perfect parent. They need a present one. Someone who keeps showing up, keeps loving them, keeps pointing them toward Jesus—even on the days when it's hard.

Don't give up. The harvest is coming. And it will be worth every exhausting, beautiful moment.

To try this week

Tonight, after your kids are asleep, take three deep breaths. Thank God for one small moment of joy from today—a laugh, a hug, a question answered. Then ask Him to renew your patience for tomorrow. You don't have to do this alone.

A closing prayer

Father, parenting is harder than I imagined. I'm tired, and some days I feel like I'm failing. Give me patience that only comes from You. Help me see the seeds I'm planting, even when I can't see the harvest yet. Amen.
